ASU TO THE RESCUE?

In what can be seen as a proactive move to stay alive, Gannett Co., Inc., the owner of 90 national daily newspapers and 22 television stations, has enlisted the help of a new university research project created to help "older" forms of media from dying.

Sixteen student researchers from Arizona State University's journalism school developed the research project to help papers and television stations understand what makes the mysterious and ever elusive 18 to 25 year old age group tick. According to a story by William Hermann of the Arizona Republic (which was also posted on Romenesko), the researchers will study the "multimedia behavior" of the teen and young adult audience.

As a young journalist hoping that there will be newspaper jobs still available when he graduates, I can only hope that these researchers succeed and their findings are not dim for the print industry.

Stay tuned.
