CHALK ANOTHER ONE UP FOR BLOGS.

As the nation learns more about Congressman Mark Foley's perverted sexual fantasies, the story behind the story has begun to unfold.

A report on CNN.com tells of an interesting new twist to the Foley/page scandal - the story was broken by a blog.

One of the more curious angles to emerge from the scandal surrounding Foley is the creation of a little-known Web site called Stop Sex Predators. It was at that site on September 24, four days before ABC News reported Foley's e-mails with a 16-year-old page, that the Florida congressman's correspondence first appeared.

This story is yet another example of how newspapers, radio, and even television are becoming too slow and are getting scooped too often by the Internet. This example's a little depressing for those who hope to be newspaper reporters one day as it leaves them to wonder if there will even be newspapers in the near future.

However, it also provides some hope to those journalism purists, as this aspect of the horrific Foley scandal highlights how blogs have yet to attain the credibility and audience of other media. It still required a television news report for many people to realize what Mark Foley was doing, or wishing he was doing, with his spare time.
